During my time at the University of Hong Kong between 2018 and 2019, I experimented with vector art as a new medium for portraiture. I had previously attempted simplistic portraits with graphite and paper or with a stylus in Adobe Draw for iPad.
I created an outline of the subject in Adobe Illustrator and filled in features using large masses of colour. The challenge of the project was to frame the subject in a format that would compliment the minimalistic theme. I decided on soft brush strokes in the background to mirror the foreground of the image. Finally, the colour white added an alternate dimension to the image, which would separate the image from the viewer.
This project provided an opportunity to experiment with new formats of portraiture. The process of rethinking my original approach allowed for a more creative interpretation of the subject.
